  1. If you are reasonably competent at using the web, and you're not on the terrorist watch list, you shouldn't have any trouble checking in online for your flight.

  2. As stated above, they make it pretty easy to do.  The process is pretty simple and intuitive, with lots of "do this now" instructions.

The only trouble would be if you forget your boarding pass, but even then you can get one at the counter at the airport.

  3. I always check in online now.,..beleive me when you get to the airport and see everyone lining up to check in and you breeze right by them....you'll be glad you did!

  4. on line check is are pretty fool proof. Youll sail through it and you will be so glad you did it when you sail past the lines at the aport

  5. I check in online all the time - confirm the flight, check in, and print boarding passes. What kind of problem(s) are you envisioning?

EDIT: I see your new question about baggage. That's the one part you have to take care of at the airport. If your airline has skycaps at the airport, you can show them your boarding pass and they will take your bag. If there are no skycaps, just go inside to your airline's ticket counter and present your luggage to be checked. Bottom line: checking in online doesn't affect what happens with your baggage.
