my partner pays child maintenence for his child from a previous relationship he has to pay 10% of his income...

When we get married does that mean that I will have to pay maintence too?

NO, your income does not count it only comes out of his income, if he becomes unemployed for any reason he will still have to pay and and it will be based on minimum wage salaries until he starts his new job. and the way it will work is that if for that time frame he does not pay anything it will be accumulating with interest until he catches up. is this already a court order? 10% is very little it is usually 20% for the first child. hope this information helps. unless in your state is different. I know a little bit on child support laws i had a small organization where i lived. helped a lot of people too.

  3. Well, your income will be shared-- so technically if he didn't pay his maintenance you could possibly be taken to court as a couple...but I think the liability (so to speak) is his. This sounds like a concern you should discuss with him.
