  1. Probably but you need to train outside of cross country to. Do workouts on your own everyday.

  2. Of course you will. Improvement is most significant when you first become a runner. You could drop several minutes on your 5k time in your first week or two of running. The top runners on your team can't do that anymore, improvement slows down a lot. Since you haven't run before, if you work as hard as everyone else, you will improve a lot more then most on your team in the beginning.

    Good luck!

  3. I know what you're feeling. I felt the exact same when I started CC and sometimes I still do now. But I know I will improve. It's a given if you're willing to work hard and you have some discipline. As you train more and increase your mileage your endurance will improve and that's when you can start focusing more on your speed. Just remember to not push yourself too hard b/c then you might end up injuring yourself. Find someone to run w/ who is just a little bit faster than you so you can push yourself to improve. You might be worried now but I'm sure you'll improve by the time the season actually gets going. Good luck and Good running :)

  4. how old are you?  Do you do any other sports, what is your height and weight.  almost every person who starts cross country improves.  It helps your stamina, builds your leg muscles and is great cross training for other sports.  Alternate a longer run with a shorter run and weights, you will see your time improve as long as you push yourself.

  5. Of course your going to improve. I remember I sucked when I first started running, but by the end of the year I was as good as the Varsity runners. Then I did track and I was the best miler in the school. Now this year as a sophomore for cross country I can run a sub 16 minute 5k.

You just have to train real hard and have some discipline and you'll be great.

  6. If you put in the work, you can improve.  Because it is the summer and XC season is still a couple weeks away, you should be in the "base" phase of your training.  Basically, you need to use this time to get some good miles in.  Talk to your coach to get a good summer running program in.  Ask him when you should be increasing your miles and what to, and when you should be cutting back and what to.  After a couple weeks of base training and endurance runs, you should begin to see improvement (if you worked at it).  However, remember that your teammates could be improving too, so although your aerobic endurance could be better, you might be the same relative to your fellow runners.

  7. as long as you run almost every day, you definitely will improve.

  8. I really hope you take me up on this! I am a semi-professional runner (I didnt make it to the olympics this year) and am currently in the process of building a website where runners give me their fitness information, and I give them a personal training program. It isnt up and running yet, but I'd like to get the idea out, so if you want to, you can email me all your fitness information (this isnt a scam, Im not making you give me any personal info) and I'll Make you a free personal fitness program. I really hope you'll take me up on this offer b/c Once the website is up it wont be free anymore. And if you choose not to: Good Luck!
