Will i loose all my time in grade after 3 months of getting out of the Marine Corps?

I've heard of Marines actually getting promoted in the IRR. I've also heard that Marines loose all their time in grade after 3 months of getting out of the Corps. Which is true?

as long as you are still on your IRR contract you will remain you present rank.

if you complete your 4 years of IRR then try to reenlist then you may lost rank

You can get promoted in the IRR.  Loosing time in grade after 3 months that is false.  Once you complete your whole contract go off of it and then try and come back the Corps usually takes your time in Grade.
