I am currently 14 years old and in grade 9. The school I currently attend does not have football. (i live in saskatchewan, they only have football in regina, saskatoon and some other private schools)

but next year I will be going to a different school that has football.

I am 5'9, and weigh 130 lbs, i'm a very fast runner, I am in really good shape and i am planning to put on another 20-30 pounds so i can weigh in the 150-160 range.

What position should i try out for? i'm kind of leading toward quarterback because everybody i played flag football with said i have a quick, accurate throwing arm.

  1. Champ is right.  QB's are usually taller but I think you sound like a good RB or DB.  Good luck with everything!!!!

  2. you are doing great, go for qb! girls love that!

  3. try QB, but if your a fast runner try RB

  4. If you are that fast try for running back. The quarterback position is usually reserved for the coaches son...sad but true.

  5. You can tell the coaches what you'd like to do but they put the players where they think they will do best.  Have you ever played a contact sport before.  This is important because if you haven't you may be in for a surprise the first time you go to tryouts.

  6. 5'9 130 is a bit tiny but if you're as fast as you're saying you are, Wide Receiver might be a good idea. If you DO end up being 150-160 (which will be hard, btw, start working out now! Ideally at the gym, but if not, do tons of push-ups, sit-ups, squats and buy a few dumbbells), running back would be a good choice. DB would also be a good choice; you might want to try out as a safety. And honestly, I wouldn't touch the QB position. QBs have to be tall, have a lot of pressure and if you're not the starter, you never see action. At the other positions, even if you're not the best player on your team at your position, you can still play because a team needs more than 1 WR, DB, RB, etc. on the field.

    Good luck.

  7. Just work on your conditioning and speed. Let the coach decide where to put you.
