now i have a Kicker 15 L7 2 Ohm DVC in a 6 cubic foot sealed box. currently it is being pushed by a ZX1500.1 wired at 4 Ohm so it gets about 750 watts rms. i have been offered a kicker SX1250.1 that will give the sub 1250 watts rms at 1 ohm. how much of a difference in sound i will notice with the power increase?

  1. i think once you get over a 1000 watt's there's really not much difference   un LESS you want to break window's

  2. **** yea

  3. yes there would be a difference. but why a 6 cube sealed enclosure you could port it and get the same effect as trading for a less powerfull amp. and there is no real reason to match wattage for wattage considering that unless its cea rated its not true. i would keep the 1500.1 and just port the box. and why wont your amp run a 1 ohm load it should. test the 1500 at 1 ohm at low volume and see how it likes it.

  4. your looking at about 2.5db increase. and that is really pretty minimal. 1 db is the smallest amount that the ear can detect. and 3 db is doubling power. and it takes 10db to to sound "twice as loud" also most stock alternators tend to fall short when a system hits around 1000 watts, so there is a good chance that 1250 watts won't be obtainable anyway, at least not for extented periods. not even with a cap (in fact that would make matters worse).

if it were me i would stick with what i have, not only does the new amp only offer minimal volume increase, it will also create a higher THD % . lower the load, the more distortion it creates. alos the newer amp would have less headroom.

and above all make sure the box is made precisely to the recomendations of the sub manufacture, anything different and you hinder the power handling, lower the effiecincy (its not as loud) and it will sound worse. so the best monet to spend is to have a custom box made for the subs.

adding a second sub will give you a 3db gain. see doubling surface area is a 3db gain.

all things equal i would take the amp you are currently using over the new amp anyday. i would spend some money and have a box made custom for your 2 subs, i'd personally go sealed. getting the right box, and doubling surface area, i suspect you could get upto 6-9 db gain.

  5. ur box is screwin u. its way too big for a sealed box.  i have a 3.2 ft ported box for my L7 and thats pretty big.  change ur box out. that'll be a huge difference.

  6. what is the rms of the sub

to get the best results the amp and sub sholud be wattage for wattage.

    ie 1250w sub on a 1250w amp.
