Will i overdose?

I've been taking robitussin DM for my cough for about a week now and it hasnt stopped i called my doctor and she said to double it ..... it says 2 tsp every 4 hours for adults and children 12 and older i'm 14 now she says to take 4 tsp every 4 hours wont i get over dose if i do this???

If your Dr. said it was fine then don't worry about overdosing.  Contact the emergency office if you begin to feel queezy after taking more robitussin, but you should be fine.

Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.

Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.

The combination of dextromethorphan and guaifenesin is used to treat cough and chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies.

Dextromethorphan will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.

There also the side effects of Robitussin DM as following :-

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Just stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness;

confusion, hallucinations; or

slow, shallow breathing.

Keep taking dextromethorphan and guaifenesin and talk to your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:

dizziness or headache,

skin rash or itching; or

nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset.

Back to your question, I personally don't think that the dosage recommended by your doctor is going to be an overdose for you. But in case if You start feeling restless or nervous. Definitely call your doctor for help.

Naw, you'll be fine. Some people drink whole bottles of Robitussin to "trip", because it can have psychogenic effects. That being said, I knew a guy who did that and was never the same afterwards, and I think some kids have died from doing it... or mixing it with alcohol too, anyway... 4 tsps ever 4 hours shouldn't hurt you, especially if you're doctor says it is okay for you, trust her, and if you then feel funny, stop taking it.
