  1. NO and YES.

    For home purposes There should be no difference in the connection because of the NIC plug, either USB or RJ45.

    You might notice a problem if the cable is crimped and damaged.

    SPEEDS:

    Maximum cable modem download data transfer rate(according to broadbandreports.com) for recent tests: 5.534 Mb/s.

    Maximum 10/100 NIC data transfer rate: 100 Mb/s.

    Maximum USB 2.0 data transfer rate: 480 Mb/s.

    So YES you gain greater capacity; but NO because unfortunately, the cable modem isn't even close to filling your existing capacity;

    -unless-

    your cable company isplanning on offering high-speed internet at 20 times faster than the

    current fastest cable modem, there's no point in switching.

  2. Yes you will. USB connetions are slower than ethernet so if you use a USB adapter for ethernet, it will be slower than using a LAN port.

  3. ethernet connection looks like a big phone jack and a USB is just a square hole

  4. Straight answer, USB is old hat for the Internet. It can't transfer data as fast as a NIC connection [Ethernet].

    Most ISPs now [mine especially] do not support USB and new modems come with an Ethernet connection only.

  5. Not for Internet access.
