  1. you would probably find more success acting in chinese movies as american actors do in american movies.  If you really believe in yourself and your trade then you'll be successful but you should also have something to fall back on.

  2. It doesn't have much to do with race as it does with luck. Just don't make acting your only career option.

  3. it really depends on you.  this site should be able to help a little bit: hollywood-opportunities(dotcom)

  4. i think you at least have a chance. as long as you are fluent in english and everything. if you are a good actor and are passionate about it and will stick with it, i think you have a chance. but my honest opinion is that unfortunately a lot of success in anything, especially acting, has a lot to do with being in the right place at the right time. but if you are passionate and hard working i think you have a chance. i am definitely NOT an expert though. GOOD LUCK!!!!

  5. Hey, I'm an actor and I worked for a casting director in Alberta last summer.  There is definitely more of a demand for white actors in film and television.  For a number of reasons, it's sad but true.  Being chinese in North America you are considered a minority and will be put into mostly minority roles when you begin, depending on your 'look'.

But to tell you the truth, anything is possible.  Depending on your look and talent, you could be the next big Lucy Leu.  But luck plays a huge role.

It also depends on how you define success.  Do you mean a Hollywood $20 Million dollar a picture star?  Or just someone who can pay the bills with acting?

If you live in BC and can get to Vancouver, take some classes, get a headshot and audition for anything and everything just to get the experience, do theatre and student films if you can.  Send your headshot and resume to agents and casting directors.  I had two auditions for television shows last year WITHOUT an agent just by sending my headshot and resume to casting directors.  Do some commercials, get a couple MOW's (Movie Of the Week), and then head to Hollywood if you can get a green card.  This all could take you 1 year depending on luck, to 5 to 10 years.  Welcome to the Biz...

I don't know what it's like in China, but If you have a good look suitable for a Chinese audience then maybe give it a try.

Don't let society tell you what you can't do.  You definitely have an uphill battle, and the odds are more against you being chinese, but if it is what you love doing then nothing should stop you from doing it.  But do not attempt this career, I am telling you, if you want to do anything else.  You will see in your first year as a struggling actor.

Christian Bale's house was almost foreclosed 5 years ago, so your definition of struggling is also open for interpretation.

  6. It does not matter about race, as long as you take beyond race.

A lot of actors went for roles that were originally suppose to be for a different race. because they through race out the window. it's the passion and love for acting that counts.

I don;'t think you need to head to Hollywood yet. Start doing plays in your community take classes. Once you have enough experience find an agents

But first you need to learn with building your confidence and not care about your race. once people see that, they won't see you as being Chinese or whatever. they'll see you being you.

  7. Why not?

People struggle the first years in most every occupation. One has to build  their own reputation whether as a doctor or a auto mechanic. But if this is your passion, and you have talent, why not?

The longest journey begins with but a single step.

My daughter is off to acting school in the fall instead of college. The school she will attend offers scholarships to some if they accept you - and they hold auditions all over the states throughout the year and they take international students.

I have put their web link below so you can check it out.

  8. Yeah but Chinese make good martial arts actors.

  9. dude! be confident and you suceed

all my best wishes are wit you!

  10. Well, I'm asian too and my biggest passion in life is being an entertainer, my family keeps telling me to model or act but I've always told them that I will never be a success being asian in a world that has millions of whites and black acting but then they said that anything is possible, if you do your best and like what you are doing you can be as good as anybody else out there. And also, for example, you know Tyra Banks? If you don't she was the first black woman to be on the front page of the swimsuit magazine, and now she's a huge success, one of the top and biggest supermodel in the world, so I say that go for it and whatever happens happens
