So I have all new hardware that my buddy helped me pick out... New CPU, motherboard, RAM... everything. The only thing that is the same is is my crappy 160GB hard drive. I got a 500GB drive and want to just start over because my old one is finally crapping out on me completely and dont feel like getting it fixed again. If I buy a copy of Windows and have someone install it on the new 500GB hard drive, Will I Basically Have a New Computer? meaning, a fresh start with brand new windows and all that? any help you guys can give me I would really appreciate, THANKS!!

  1. Yes

  2. yes u will basically have a new computer

you will have a new o.s and  if you want the files on your old hard drive u will have to copy them to your new one

reinstalling your o.s is as simple as putting a disk into your drive and following the instructions

  3. Basically it is a new and fresh PC. I suggest you do a partitioning on your hard drive while installing new OS. Install OS on primary local drive, which is the drive c:, 20-30 gb will do. Only install your OS on drive c: and no other programs. This will help you keep your pc performing best for a long time and when reinstalling a new OS again, you will not find it hard to transfer files to another hard drive.

  4. Yes but if you buy a copy of Windows installing it only requires you to put disc in CD/DVD and follow the instructions they'er real EZ

  5. You will have a "new computer" if you disconnect the 160GB drive.

I suggest formatting the 160GB drive and installing fresh windows on the 500GB.

More storage and happy owner! =)

    Thanks.

  6. By "new computer", you mean a clean, fresh install, right?  Sure, you'll have a clean install with a new hard drive.  You can even use the copy of Windows that you were using on the 160 gb hard drive; simply stick the disc in and do a clean install, using the product key that came with it.  It'll save you from having to buy a new product key.
