Question:

Will it affect the medicine's effectiveness if it melted in my mouth a little before I could swallow?

I washed it all down with water after, but I was wondering if maybe it would be less effective as it won't be as concentrated.

Thanks.

  1. Generally, if it melts a bit in your mouth, it won't affect the effectiveness. The only significant side effect is the taste left in your mouth and perhaps some color on the tongue. The pills that will dissolve like this are intended to dissolve quickly in the stomach and starting to dissolve in the mouth only gets them started a bit sooner. Pills that need to dissolve elsewhere in the digestive system are coated with a harder shell or are by their own chemistry more resistant to dissolving in the mouth and will not be a problem.

  2. If it was a solid pill it doesn't matter much.

But if it was a plastic coated pill, those who contain powder inside, that was a bad idea. The plastic is intended to be melted by gastric juice in your stomach. If the active powder inside is released in your mouth, it may never reach its intended destination, or it may hurt your mouth (some are strong stuff)

  3. it wont make much of a difference it will only make the medicine have a weirder taste (like sour milk).

  4. when u swallow a pill your stomach acid breakes it down slowly and the body can take it in slowly that is why when you talk a pain pill it says repeat every 4 hours cause it takes that long to break down so if you let it melt in your mouth or you crush it up it takes a shorter time to get in your system there for it is a bigger punch on your system and the effects will go away faster. and then you have to still wait the 4 hours for another dose. if you don't you run the risk of effecting the kidney and the liver
