Will it be difficult for me to get a green card?

I will be marrying a US citizen but I have received a ticket for driving w/o a driver's license and also a misdemeanor.

  1. Post 9/11 anything with citizenship and green cards has become more difficult.  I'm not sure if those things will count against you but either way it's not going to be any easier even if you're marrying a US citizen.


  2. This probably won't be a real  problem for you, but we can't give you a more precise answer without more information on the misdemeanor. To some extent, it would depend on whether the misdemeanor was considered a crime of moral turpitude and how long a sentence you were given on conviction. normally, one conviction of a crime of moral turpitude doesn't prevent you from gettting a green card, unless you got a substantial sentence, which would include suspended sentences. by the way, shoplifting is considered in this category.
