Will it be difficult to navigate a 17' Uhaul truck into Brooklyn at midnight on a weeknight?

Moving to Brooklyn in August (either bay ridge, park slope, prospect heights, sunset park, or kensington) and am wondering how difficult it will be to drive the UHAUL through Brooklyn at midnight. I figure there should be less traffic at this time. Also, am wondering if I would be better off getting a 14' UHAUL instead- as it would be easier to make corners. After all- Semi trucks go though there don't they?

  1. All kinds of trucks go through, but it's not easy.  Going in around midnight is probably a good idea, but make sure you're off the streets by 2 AM, when many bars close and drunks flood the streets.  The Goethals and Verrazano bridge route is the best, especially if you're going to Bay Ridge or Sunset Park.  Stay on I-278 to get as close as possible to your destination, and then expect a bit of difficulty getting from the interstate to your destination.  If you're going to park a loaded U-Haul truck in Brooklyn around midnight, I would suggest you (and, if possible a buddy) stay with it through the night with baseball bats or crow bars or something like that..

  2. I think your most worry would be about what kind of neighborhood your moving into.  "Navigate" - no, but I'd check to see what kind of neighborhood it is. They see your U Haul coming, they may want to get hands on whats inside.
