Will it be too chilly for swimming at the beaches in Italy during mid-April to late May?

My friends and I are planning a trip to Italy in April-May 2009. We will be visiting Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Tuscany. While we want to enjoy the culture, we also want to get some sun down on the beaches. We usually go to the beach here in Vancouver at temperatures of 26°C/78°F or higher. Will temperatures be lower than this? We were planning for the summer, but with temperatures nearing 40°C, we think it may be too hot.

  1. What sort of a question is this? You'll find out when you get there!

  2. I live in Italy and in May we usually have VERY hot days (definetely higher than 25°, also 30°-32° in late May) so I think you will have no problem at the beaches.

In the past years in late April, it was not unusual to go the sea but there can be rainy days too, while, on May you can be sure to enjoy the sun

  3. prob

  4. Are you a wimp

Brita swim all year round in the sea

Go to the serpentine in London, mid winter for a quick dip

  5. erm....well you probably wont be swimming in milan, florence, rome or venice cos they don't have beaches right next to them...so first you will have to travel out a bit.

best place is probably tuscany as it has the best beaches.

The weather in april is always up and down...you can have lovely warm days and then suddenly the temperature drops and it rains and gets stormy. May things begin to pick up, and by mid may, beach weather starts, but the sea will probably be quite cold until mid june....so up to you!....If the weather is good and you dont mind cold water, go for it!

Personally I would have chosen june for Italy as the weather is perfect and you can swim and the there's not too much tourism
