Question:

Will it hurt my amp if i run 2 gauge instead of 4 gauge power and ground wire?

the amp calls for 4 gauge i was wondering for future installs of a larger amp

  1. it wont hurt at all in fact it'll pull more current with = more power


  2. no it will not hurt the amp at all however it does leave room for ampreage leaks. yes that is a term and it does happen. its when your not using the gauge wire to its full potential it actually can slow down the current to the amp which will make your amp work harder than normal. but if your getting the other items in soon go for it. hope this helps. also look into buy an breaker for that wire its more expencive than a fuse but it will last much longer.

  3. Absolutely not....The amp will only draw the power it needs to operate...nothing more...  It would also be a good idea to run 2 gauge if you plan on adding additional amps.
