Will it matter if I can't run alot at field hockey practice?

Sat. is field hockey practice and I can only run a 1/4 mile. Will I embarrass myself or just do my best? Also can I improve by then?

  1. If you have to do a mile run test, you will embarrass yourself. There's nothing you can do to get in shape now. Sorry, but you should have trained a lot before the season started.

Well, are you saying that you can't run more than 1/4 mile at top speed or a slow steady pace?  I don't think that in two days, you will be able to increase your endurance that much - usually that takes several months of consistent training which is 3-4 times / week of a long distance run (3 - 6 miles).

    In field hockey, your style of running is a continual, moderately paced run and occassional bursts of top speed running.  You might want to train with this in mind.  

    I don't know if you will embarrass yourself - only you will know how you feel if you do your best and still are huffing & puffing to keep up; but don't let fear stop you from doing what you love to do.  Do your best and keep doing your best - that is how you will improve.
