  1. Architectural shingles are available in 20, 25, 30, and 40 year warranties.  The term "architectural" refers to the appearance of the shingle.  It is textured, rather than a flat 3-tab.  If you are only planning to be in your house for 10 years, and live in an area where high winds are not common, go with a 20 or 25 year.  If you have problems with wind, upgrade to a 40 year.  In any case, the key to a long lasting roof is proper preparation.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  2. Most all new construction uses these now. They just look attractive. If you are selling this home the curb appeal is worth it. Remember, first impressions are very important when selling your home. Imagine yourself driving up with your realtor and looking at the house the first time. Do you want it to look like a bottom of the line tract home or something that may have a little flair?
