Question:

Will kitty jump out the window?

Let me say, first off, my kitty is VERY territorial and violent. He hates other cats, and if he wasn't an indoor cat there would be plenty of dead cats in our neighborhood. We can't open our windows downstairs because if a stray cat walked past them he'd jump right out the window and clobber them.

My room is upstairs (first from the ground) so I'm sure no cat would be able to jump THAT high. But sometimes I can hear stray cats howling from my room. Do you think, if there was a howling cat outside and my windows were open, my cat would jump out the window? My dad says he wouldn't, that the window screen would be too much of a challenge, but I'm being paranoid.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, heheh...you really have to know my cat...

Thanks!!!

  1. Dude I totally understand.  i have three cats and all of them have done some pretty amazing things including windows, balconies and heights.  I would agree with you.  the screen might cuse a detterent, but if the cat wants out it;s only a matter of time before she rips or pushes the screen out.  As for the height, I wouldnt be surprised.  I would leave your window opened a tiny bit or not at all. If it;s hot or something you could put in one of those window unit swamp fans.  if it's more of a curiousity thing, like i said i think you're right.  Or maybe I'm just paranoid too

  2. You should think about having screens installed outside of your windows. Unless he can scratch the screens 0-o

  3. I think so. Maybe you could open your window if there is no tables or anything your cat can jump on to get to the window. Can your cat sit on the window sill? Try to make a creative thing that will block your can from the window but it will still look nice. Hope it helped and good luck!

  4. If he'd go out from a lower window, being higher up will not stop him from doing the same with that window.  Keep the glass side down so he can't break through the screen.

  5. yes he would jump

  6. if you have a window screen you dont have to worry about it. try to keep his claws short or file them so he wont make a hole in it and fall down. cats dont have good depth perception so he might not notice hes jumping from the second floor and might get hurt.

  7. KEEP THE WINDOWS SHUT

Not a stupid question at all. From my experience Territorial or possessive cats will do just about anything to protect whats they see as theirs.

The second your cat had even a vague hunch that another cat was around he would be straight out that window.

Mine jumped from a moving car- he was fine thank goodness- but it just goes to show.

Perhaps you should look at getting stainless steel fly screens installed?

They are expensive but they are worth it because the cats can't claw through them.

  8. He will jump. I tried catching my cat which had spotted some birds flying outside the window. It darted almost half way out of the window. His body being slippery, that split second I thought he was going to fall down. We live on the 14th floor. Luckily, I grapped and pulled him back hard. He fell back. So did I. Ended I suffered bruises on my knees and sprained my elbow. Don't take chances. Now I put a blind to the window.

  9. Yes my friends cat that i helped care for jumped out one .... and well it didn't go so good keep it shut care for your pet
