  1. They'd have to build an arena.  Their ECHL team, the Wranglers play at The Orleans Arena which is quite small compared to any NHL arena.  Not too sure if they could support and NHL team though.  Went to a Wranglers playoff game, and even with seats a few rows from the glass only costing $20, and free parking, it wasn't a sellout.

  2. No.  Expansion is not an option until the current market can maximize their audience, and Vegas doesn't provide a large enough fanbase for a professional hockey team.  The market would be worse there than in Miami, regardless of what sort of grandiose arena they could build/use for the team.  Besides, Bettman can't be brazen enough to put another team in the desert (no disrespect to Phoenix).  There are much larger markets to be tapped (Winnipeg, Cleveland, Seattle) ahead of Vegas if anything changes.

  3. I sure hope not, and agree with Ric....I personally want to see another Canadian team before anything. Particularly central Canada.

  4. They might, if they keep selling out for games there. But I doubt it because then the NHL would have 31 teams. But maybee a team could move their franchise to Las Vegas

  5. never gonna happen

vegas will not stop betting on hockey and that is a major requirement

and vegas does not have the fan support either

and i would doubt the ice would be very good either

  6. Jerry Bruckheimer and the NHL hope to have a team in Vegas soon.  Bruckheimer submitted an expansion proposal to the NHL Board of Governors in October 2005, and it has been reviewed favourably by the league.  The NHL plans on doing a two-team expansion within in the next 5 years (2010-2011 is the year most talked about).

The two current choices are Las Vegas and Kansas City (the owner of the LA Kings owns the arena in Kansas City).  Other submissions have been presented by groups in Portland, Oregon and Houston, Texas.

While Bill Daly said a few weeks ago that the  NHL had no plans for expansion....................the same statement was made 3 weeks before Bettman announced that Nashville, Atlanta, Minnesota, and Columbus would be joining the league.

  7. I hear Gil Grissom is going to be the GM

  8. that would bring alot of money to the industry

  9. idkk probably not.

  10. I hope not

  11. While expansion was kicked around as an idea for the near future at the GMs meeting at the All Star break, I'm pretty sure Vegas was not one of the choice cities discussed.  Climate and demographics are against them I'm afraid.  But then, they said there'd never be an NHL team in Arizona.....

  12. Although Vegas (and I do love that city) seems like a natural for a major sports team, people who know sports and Vegas say it is not a good fit.

The citizens of that city (and it is the citizens which attend the games not the tourists) don't work a normal 9-5 work shift. They work the 24 hour a day shift that the entertainment facilities operate. Thus the audience of fans is reduced by a half. Being a desert community this would put hockey lower on the entertainment choice of the citizens. Until Phoenix has to turn patrons away I wouldn't hold my breath for Vegas.

  13. nah probally not

  14. I think it's a strong possibility an NHL and/or NBA team will land there.  There's talk of building an arena (with AEG) there and it's a natural marriage of money, sports & entertainment.   Apparently a group lead by Jerry Bruckheimer has been in talks with NHL officials for months and is making a strong push.  Wonder what the line is in Vegas for this to happen.  I too would rather see Canada get one but I'm also a realist.  I do think the league will expand to 32 teams relatively soon.

  15. Just what the league needs. To water down the NHL with another expansion in a place that would not support it. Kansas City would not support it by a long shot. ( I know. I used to live there.) They cannot even sell out a d**n Royals game on a Saturday evening with tix sometimes as low as $15. Vegas has one of the worse transient population issues in the country. There would be almost ZERO fan base in vegas based on the demographics.

  16. no i really hope not! if any city needs a team it should be a

    canadian city.

  17. Eventually,

Vegas will get a team before Canada does. The Wranglers are not a good benchmark to say Vegas would, or would not support a team.

Now, with that said where the money is in Hockey, from an attendance standpoint is not everyday fans going to the game it's selling those suites, corporate sponserships, and lower bowl seats. If a team can do that it'll drive the local TV market dollars up.

Vegas would not have a problem selling suites, or corporate sponserships. Casinos pay boxers to paint their logos on their backs when they fight.

I would go to Vegas for an away game. Remember the first outdoor game. Kings at Ceasers palace 80 degrees, 13,000 in attendance.
