Question:

Will leather boots be okay for beginning telemark skier?

I have some pretty fat telemark skis (Dimensions: 124/88/111) and can handle them well on green and blues (last season was first time skiing) with big resort boots (4 strap). I was hoping to buy my own boots now for next season and was wondering if it is even possible for a beginner like me to turn those skis with a light pair of leathers (saw the telemark version of http://www.orsdirect.com/sale-womens-karhu-sirius-backcountry-nordic-ski-boot-75mm-2004-2005-us8.html)

  1. i wouldn't. get proper boots, especially if you r a beginner.

  2. Buy the best fitting boots you can find. They need to be appropriate for the task and you need to allow for how long you will use this pair. Get a pair that are more advanced than you are by 2 seasons, you'll learn better and progress faster if you intend to keep up with the sport.

  3. I wouldnt suggest that you use Karhu's with downhill telemarking. These leather boots are more often used for alpine touring and [majorly] cross-country skiing. I would pick up a plastic one; as the technology is much better and more new than in the leather boots.

    Hope this Helps.

  4. no, wear ski boots, much more comftorable and safe, than regular shoes/boots
