Will linking up computers through phone lines do any damage?

me and my brother link up our computers through the phone line and play starcraft, but then our mom comes and makes us quit. she claims that by linking them up on the phone line it will hurt the computer, is this true in any way?

People have been hooking computers together through the phone line for many years, both directly and through the phone company.  Indeed, a dial-up or DSL connection to your computer amounts to a hookup between your computer and the phone company using the phone line so that your computer can originate calls and talk to other computers, usually the one at your ISP.

It's extremely unlikely.  I assume you are talking about dialing from one computer using a modem to another.  This is reasonably safe, and is a time tested communication technology.  I used a computer with a modem for over ten years with no noticeable ill effect on the computer - heck, most of the world did, before broadband connections became more common.
