Will london 2012 top beijing 2008 in ceremony and stadium atmosphere?

Beijing performed a great ceremony.. but because something great has been achieved once does not mean it cannot be again. I dont know if it will be bigger and better, because of money and time.. but i like to think we are proud that we can hold the Olympics and have the opportunity to make it memorable

I know more money will be spent than we have, but I think Beijing had many volunteers who helped out with the Olympics, and I like to think we will help too.. I think a lot of dancers and artists will come together to be part of a big event like this.. I hope Beijing will inspire us more to create an Olympics we will want to remember ^ w ^

Unbeatable, I agree with you.  But I don't think we will do badly either, China must think that we are cool when they employed a group of Scottish bagpipe players to play in the opening ceremony and the Scotts did an amazing job well done.

Beijing is the most and ever expensive ceremony. They want the tourist attraction go to beijing. London have their own style, England and China is both ancient city. I believe that England is still the best .

I don't have much faith it will. Everyone feels they shouldn't give towards it. It would be a shame but I hope they make the stadiums worthwhile and have a use afterwards. I am not sure what they are plannng to do but personally I loved the bit where the man carried the torch walking through the air before it was lit. Brilliant - we need to come up with something like that!!

It's going to rain, there will be a transit strike, the entire project will come in hugely over budget, and before it's over, something will be blown up.

I think so to be honest. Stadium atmospher only though - not actually all round better. Think how excited we are about it and it is 4 years away - we're gonna be mad in the stadiums.

If the 8 minute segment in the closing ceremony is anything to go by then no.

The British Olympic organisers spent 2 and half million pounds and for that you got a singer that nobody outside of the UK had heard of,a pensioner who was a brilliant guitarist in his day,David Beckham kicking 1 football and a double decker bus.

Not exactly money well spent.

We Brits don't do spectacle very well.

ceremony will have to wait and see what they pull off, in terms of stadium atmosphere it is bound to be alot more laid back and enjoyable, there was alot of staff working in beijing and it just seemed as if they tried too hard to be professional and it took the fun away and the countries spectators didn't seem all that cheerful unless their athletes were successfull.

they have already said they are focusing on making the games more technical by adding big screens everywhere and outside the stadium which should give it more of a party atmosphere.

I say no because the China had to do all the could do to cover up all the wrong that they did during the games. I see London being a little less extravagant but the competition to be judged evenly. (Ex. Boxing, Gymnastics, Diving)

I heard a certain radio announcer the other day talking about the same thing & he said "Beijing was fantastic & what did we give them an X factor winner, an ageing rock star & an overrated footballer" o'yes and Boris Johnson.. We will be hard pressed to match it I think.

Speaking as a Chinese, London could be better. The London 2012 organizers now have a fresh blank piece of paper to work on and over the next four years I'm sure they can draw up something unique and great! However, London also need unity (which evidently doesn't have) amongst its people - internal fighting will never get things done.

I agree with you, I don't think we can beat beijing in their ceremonies, but I'm sure we'll woop their butts off the medal table.

Actually I believe London will add something new to the games, something totally different and amazing in a different way to London 2012.

Beijing was phenomenal! So creative.

Also China has the money to spend on extravagant things like that.. and sooo many people to practice for a year plus to get it perfect.

Britain doesn't have anywhere near the money to spend on the ceremony.. and not nearly enough people..

Ah well.

China never said that the girl is 'ugly'

The following excerpt is a translated transcript of a radio interview of 陈其钢 Chen Qigang, chief music director of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony:

"We went to the Central Broadcasting Radio Station to make recordings. It was felt afterward that Lin Miaoke’s voice wasn’t exactly suitable in terms of tone control, range and depth. In the end, we decided that Yang Peiyi should be the one to provide the voice. We thought it was in the national interest to put the one with the best appearance and expression on the stage. Lin Miaoke was a very good choice for this role. But in terms of the music, we all felt that Yang Peiyi had the flawless voice."

In Western media I've often seen it presented as if Yang Peiyi had been considered "too ugly", which of course is ridiculous insulting nonsense but that goes in line with the general campaign of demonizing China..

<It now seems that organizers and directors of the ceremony never intended to deny the credit to Yang Peiyi for her (potential) role in the flag entrance scene. The official Beijing Olympics opening ceremony program guide was scanned and posted on the net. Singing: (A) Yang Peiyi, (B) Lin Miaoke, (C) Lei Cixin

So Yang Peiyi is actually listed ahead of Lin Miaoke in the credit. I wonder if the third girl on the list, Lei Cixin, is the 10-year old Chen Qigang referred to in the interview.
