Will magpies still swoop even if I'm waving a stick in the air?

  1. yes they will still swoop. It's the males that swoop & only because they're protecting their nest. Avoiding the area for a short time might be better.

    Some people reckon an ice cream container with a face drawn on it works. Never tried it myself, I just avoid them...


  2. Many years ago when I used to ride to school, a magpie used to swoop me for 2 or so months every year. I carried a golf club and swing it round in the air but he still swooped me. I would say he will still swoop you but He wont be able to hit you if you take a stick. Draw eyes on your hat and they wont swoop as much,.

  6. they'll probably be intimidated by the very site of a human and fly away
