I took the second class in the general chemistry series and got a 1.7GPA and 1.5GPA in trigonometry. My GPA 3.31 (I feel lucky), and each quarter has its 4.0s and share of 2.0s, with 3.0s average.

  1. Yes.  That looks really bad.  You really need a 3.5 or above to have a decent shot at med school, and you need good grades in your pre-med classes - general chem and pre-calc included.  Retake them.

  2. yes it matters a lot.  kiss your chances of med school GOODBYE.  they won't let you in.  even if you re-take the class & get an A+ - your GPA will still be bad, & they wont even give you a chance.. I would take a step back & really think about if you have the commitment and drive to get into med school.  you have to put your all into it.

  3. Yes.  If you had that much trouble with general chem, organic chem is going to be really hard [not that it isn't anyway!].  Not to mention all the other intense science courses: neurobiology, pathophysiology, etc, etc.  Med school is an intense grind - that's why it's so difficult to get in.  They only accept those whom they think will be able to handle it, based on past performance.
