Question:

Will medicaid cover the portion that was my responsibility that my previous insurance didn't?

At the time I had my son (April 08) I had my employers' insurance and the cost of childbirth and other hospital expenses were covered and I am only left with a small amount to pay out of pocket. I am now covered under medicaid (GA) and I know they cover for 3 months previous medical bills in relation to pregnancy/childbirth, but I'm not sure about portions left over once one insurance provider has covered the majority of it. Will they cover this portion for me or is it still my responsibility to pay it?

  1. Yes, as long as the medicaid was in effect at the time services were rendered (not when you received the bill) as long as the doctor accepts medicaid, they should cover it.

  2. You will have to check with them.  Although they go back three months, it's usually only to the date the application for coverage was received, up to three months.

Plus, they don't normally act as a secondary insurer, unless you ARE the child.

So you'll have to call Medicaid and ask.
