  1. No.  Melafix is like the fish equivalent of neosprorin.  I've used it before several times with no effect.

Fin rot is most commonly fixed by having cleaner water and if that doesnt work than you can turn to a real antibacterial like tetracycline or maracyn.

  2. Melafix is a diluted and miscible (meaning it will mix with water) form of melaleuca oil, or tea tree oil.  It is a very good healing agent for fish tissue and is great at helping to speed the healing of torn, split or wounded fins as well as open sores.  However, it is not a curative agent and will not kill the disease that causes fin rot, although it will help to heal the damage suffered by survivors of it.  You should treat the fish with an antibiotic like Maracyn or Maracyn II or some form of erythromycin and then add some Melafix and/or StressCoat to the water to help heal the fin damage that was sustained.  A little aquarium or sea salt added to the water can also help stimulate the slime coat of the fish and help them fight off the infection, as long as you don't have any scaleless fish like catfish, or any snails or a lot of live plants.

  3. only if the fin rot is new if it's eaten up more than just the edge of the fin it won't work you'll need something stronger I would suggest maracyn or maracyn-2. But untill you can get some the melafix should at least stablize the fish.

  4. Not sure about melafix. Some advice for treating fin rot is to keep the tank water clean by keeping up with water changes or doing more frequent water changes. Stress Coat conditioner promotes fin growth.

  5. Yup it says on the directions that it heals cotton moth tail and fin rot open wounds ect.
