Im considering joining the military. I scored high 70s on my asvab and qualified for intel jobs. I made a few mistakes my freshman year at college at experiemented with prescription pills and my parents found out and put me into rehab.. However i quickly found out once there i didn't belong there because i wasn't an addict. So, after approx. one week i left. And haven't used drugs since. I lied on the medical questionnare that my recruiter made me fill out about previous drug use and previous rehab stays.. Will the military find out about this through some kind of background check and see that i was in rehab for that short period of time or will i be good? Please someone help me out with this because it's been really bothering me... I really wanna join and i don't want this to ruin it for me... Any responses from someone who knows more about this kind of stuff would really help. Thanks

  1. they usually don't find out about medical history that you don't confess but it's better just to fess up. it doesn't sound like anything too serious and you can get a waiver if you have to. if they find out about it later then you'll get in a lot more trouble.

  2. Fill out the Standard Form 93 (Report of Medical History) completely and truthfully. Then explain the circumstances to the examiners. They may ask for the records, but it's better to start out as an honest man and get it cleared up in the beginning. The disciples of situational ethics, as espoused by William Sloan Coffin, never joined the military. Most of them are the anti-military congregants  of Riverside Church in Manhattan.

  3. I'm sure it's somewhere. (Did you use Insurance?)

  4. Intel will need a higher clearance than secret so when they start talking to people who knew you yes they will find out.

@dded: Back in 1979 they knocked on doors of neighbors and talked to teachers, for my BG check

  5. They have a way of finding things out.

  6. You _will_ get caught.

Since you are looking for a job that requires a security clearance there will be a detailed background investigation performed.  In fact this is the sort of thing that the background investigation is supposed to uncover because if somebody ever finds out you are hiding this from the military you can be blackmailed.

BTW - it is a criminal offense to lie on your enlistment paperwork and the military will kick you out with no benefits if (when) they catch you.

  7. MEPS wont but since your going for an intel job the people who go through your life for security clearance will, especially because you posted it on a public board like yahoo answers. word to the wise, dont ever mention it again as far as you are conserned, it never happened, nothing to talk or worry about.
