  1. It is dangerous & you should wait until after the baby is born.

Don't listen to the "Jerry Springer" comment.

  2. Can DNA testing be done before the baby is born?

Yes. DNA paternity testing can be done before the baby is born through chorionic villus sampling (CVS) as early as the tenth week of pregnancy or about the fifteenth week with amniocentesis. However, amniocentesis may also be used for s*x determination of the baby which is banned by law. So, it is quite likely to have some regulatory laws for such tests.

This is something that you are going to have to discuss with your doctor. why cant you just wait til after the baby is born? i think the maury show gives out free paternity testing

  3. They probably will not do it.  First of all, it may be dangerous to the baby's well being and development.  Secondly, your insurance may not pay for that kind of procedure.

It is best to wait until after the birth of the baby to do it.  It is much similar at that time, because just a cheek swab or blood sample can give your an accurate result.

  4. It is dangerous.  As important as it seems now to you, you do NOT want to take this chance.  You may not know who the baby's father is going to be, but YOU are the MOTHER.  You need to do what is best for the baby regardless of the situation with the father or potential fathers.

If you are putting the baby up for adoption as you've previously stated, why is this so important?

It would be VERY expensive, NOT covered by insurance, and a risk to the health and safety of your baby.

This can wait.  You have only one person to worry about now, and that person is the baby.

  5. Most physicians will NOT perform an amnio. for the sole purpose of DNA testing, because it is not medically necessary and imposes many risks.  Also, without medical necessity insurance will not cover the procedure, which is quite expensive.

There is a new form of prenatal DNA testing that is less risky, and not quite as expensive.  Check out the website http://www.DNAPlus.com (or is it .org?) and find the link for prenatal paternity testing.  This procedure is no more risky than having blood drawn for other lab work, because that is basically all that is done-after 13 weeks of pregnancy, they will take a sample of your blood and isolate fetal cells that have been discarded into your blood stream and use that for the baby's sample.  The test is just as accurate as a traditional test, and they even offer to do that at no additional cost after the baby is born (the cheek swab) to verify the results-they do that because the test procedure is so new that some people might question the validity.

The website gives information on the procedure for the test, the costs, etc.

I hope this helps, and wish you the best!

  6. they will not do it unless it is medically proven necessary. because it is part of their medical insurance and they won't risk getting dropped and losing their practice.
