yes they will put them on the outside all around close to base

No I do not think moth balls  will help you.  I did a lot of research for myself as I live in the country, all the experts said no snakes will come.  Some people say moth balls, sulfur, and urinal cakes will work.  I don't think any thing will work.  I to have outdoor shed,  I make sure to always close door.
