Will my (D:) partition be erased if I reformat my (C:) drive?

My computer came with a factory 'restore' partition labeled as the (D:) drive, located on my (C:) drive. I want to reformat and reinstall my computer from the restore drive, but by reformatting the (C:) drive which contains the (D:) Recovery partition, will I lose the data on the (D:) partition as well?

Thanks!

  1. Your hard drive is already partition into two. So it means, when you reformat the C: drive, it doesn't affect the D: drive where your back-up is being stored.

  2. No,

  3. There is one simple answer to that - no it wont be erased. when a drive is partitioned off the computer then sees it as 2 drives (although there is only 1 physical drive). it should be  perfectly safe to reformat C:

  4. No, reformatting your C: drive will not affect your D: partition.  I'm guessing that you have a Windows operating system.  If so, you may very well be able to reinstall Windows from the D: recovery partition without a manual reformat of the C: drive first.  This is simply because many tailored Windows recovery setups will prompt you during the recovery process to see if you want to reformat the C: drive before installing Windows.
