Question:

Will my Garmin work in Hawaii?

My husband and I are going to Hawaii next week, and we thought it would be helpful to bring our Garmin with us to help us get around. Will it work if we just take it there and put in the locations we want to go to, or will we need to download anything special?

  1. It should work just fine in Hawaii.  If your unit is loaded with North America maps, it should have Hawaii map data.  If it just has US map data, it is possible that your unit may only have map data for the lower 48 mainland states.  Turn the unit on and try to zoom in on Hawaii to see if your GPS receiver has any detailed map data there.

Once you are in Hawaii, your Garmin may take longer to get a position fix when you first turn it on.
