I have just got a Golden Mantle Rosella, so beautiful.

Only makes loud noises now and then but not very often.

Will he learn to talk??

Told he is 5 months, but I think more like 1 year.

We have only had him 2 days!!

  1. Rosellas are not known for talking. So I would answer your question with a no, but there are always individual exceptions. I have heard of a few cases where a pet rosella has been taught to say a word or two.

You can try to really work with him, and *maybe* he will learn to  say one or two things. But don't get your hopes up.

Please note that if he does ever learn to talk, it will take a while. Maybe even a year or two.

....Rosellas are so beautiful. I'm jealous!

  2. Rosella's are not renowned for talking, but they still can, they do not pick up speech as well as other Parakeets do.

At five months I would have thought you may have had a chance of teaching it but if as you say it is about a year then this will be more difficult.

But like everything there could be a chance! I would only use a three word phrase to start with and then it's time and patience and perseverance, repetition repetition.

I seem to have answered a question by some one asking what kind of Parrot there's was just recently and it was a Rosella the same age,Coincidence.?
