I have a 6 year old male, Labrador Retreiver. He is so friendly, he wouldnt hurt a fly.

When i am not doing anything he sleeps all day.

I wanted to know if i could get a 1 year old male dachsund to give him a playmate when i am busy.

My Lab is crate and potty trained, and am at school for 7 hours a day. (but im home for weekends) And i still take my dog for a long walk everyday.

So do you think that i could get another dog,

Here is my questions.

1 Will my dog get along with him.

2 Will the Dachsund be able to either stay in a kennel, outside, or in a room for 7 hours a day.

  1. Hello.

Yes it should but if you are adopting it from a dogs home then you may need to find out if its good with other dogs.

Also if your planning at leaving it with the dog you may want to try them out together first because you don't want to come home to blood and guts.

    Good luck.

  2. dachsund are very sensitive dogs, and they are the breed that bites the most. You might have some trouble...

I used to have a miniature pincher and dacshund together and they fought all the time. But there were moments when they were the cutest, i.e.: bedtime, they would curl together and sleep.

  3. I would be careful with a large dog and a small dog. My in-laws had a dachsund that was crippled because their larger dog fell on her. Both her front legs were broken and she couldnt walk again. Supervised play would be best. A Dachsund can be crated, or left at home but with any dog it would need to be properly trained before it was left unattended.

  4. I have a lab and a dachsund.  They get along fabulously.  I have never had a problem with my dach biting anything like the other person said.  Dachsunds are very smart adaptable dogs.  Both of mine stay at home while we are at work and we don't have any problems!  Good luck with your new pup!
