Question:

Will my TV be affected by the switch to digital broadcasting?

My Tv is a few years old but is currently connected to comcast through plugging a wire into the wall. No box is involved just a cable. I've been having trouble figuring out if the switch to digital will affect it.

  1. The switch to digital will only effect those who do not have cable or satellite, otherwise those still using an antenna.

  2. If you are just plugging the coax cable into your TV, I'm pretty sure that means you are not getting Digital TV services from your cable company, just analog.  However, you may be in luck.

The FCC has mandated that cable companies continue to carry both analog and digital signals for 3 years after the analog broadcasting sunset in February 2009.  There is a good chance therefore that your current solution will continue to work.  I'm no expert, but answering your question may also depend on whether your TV has a digital tuner built in.  (By the way if your TV came with cablecard technology, that may be another way for you to avoid getting a set-top box.)
