Will my bike rust?

Question

I have and aluminum bike with carbon forks and Ultegra Shifters, trek pro brakes, 105 front derailer, 105 casset and ultegra rear derailer.

I was riding home yesterday and for 10 minutes it started to rain a little. Not hard but very very very lite rain.

Will my bike rust?

i don't think so but if the road got wet (lube chian and gears and crank gears they will rust if no lube ****DO NOT USE MOTOR OIL IT WILL DESTORY YOUR BIKE AND GEARS AND CHAIN

Most of the parts on your bike won't rust, but one major component can, the chain. Make sure it is lubed, if it gets rusty it will fail quickly as the rust will act like sand paper wearing it out.

Although most of your bike won't rust there are some things that eventually will.

Mtbkr has already pointed out the most important part that is subject to rust- the chain. Most of the nuts and bolts will rust and if not maintained correctly the bottom bracket spindle, the pedal spindles, the cassette, and other doo dads can as well.

Just because you frame is aluminum that doesn't exclude it from corrosion either. Although not rust in the truest sense of the word, aluminum can and will corrode.

Well, here's the low-down on that one. You can get your bike wet as much as you want but you need to make sure that you wipe off the water immediately or else rust will creep in. Rust can even creep in your internal parts. I read this once on the book called "Zinn and the art of mountain bike maintenance" by Lennard Zinn.

Bottom line, play and get dirty all you want just make sure you give your bike a good old clean after.

I once had a mountain bike that I just left outdoors during the rainy season. My crank, pedal and derailleur turned golden rust brown after six months.

No, I highly doubt that it will rust. I sometimes leave my bike out in the rain when it is pouring down and it hasnt rusted since. A little rain most likely will not hurt.
