the cell phone network in brazil is different the in the us and not all cellphones will work.It mostly seems to depend on what kind of cellphone you are using. You should  contact your provider before you go.Among other reasons, if you do not your cellphone provider will notice that calls are  not coming from your address and will conclude that your sim card is stolen.Sometimes they will shut off your service unless you tell them you are going overseas.Ditto for credit/debit cards.
