I am going away to college in the fall. I have had my cat since she was a kitten. She follows me around the house and she sleeps in my room. I can't take her to school with me. When I come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas break will she remember me??

  1. I have no doubt in my mind she will remember you.  I don't think animals forget their human companions.  After all, you hear alot about dogs that get lost and come home years later.  She may take a while to warm up to you when you do come home only because you've been gone for a while and she may be giving you "the third degree" or she may be so happy to see you, she won't leave you alone.

  2. Yes, your cat will remember.  I got a cat when I was 13 or 14, and I also could not take him to college.  The first year of college, I went home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break and summer, and he remembered me.  By my senior year, I was only going home for maybe 15 days a year (I went to Japan over winter break that year, so he didn't see me at all between thanksgiving and spring break).  Every time, it usually takes less than a day for him to get used to me again.

I now have a new cat after finishing college, and my old one doesn't really seem to like that, but I think you don't need to worry about that yet.  During college, your cat will definitely remember you.

  3. She will be MAD... at you and treat you like it...

    but she will remember you.

You might give her a shirt to sleep on that has your sent on it.

Or when you call make sure to talk to her too... (maybe that will keep her from becoming spiteful)

I always talk to my cats before I leave ... since I have been doing that it seems to relieve thier stress a lot.

  4. she might remember you but at first when you get back she won't really know you until you give her some time to get use to you again :)
