Will my cell phone work in mexico?

Ok, so I'm going to Cancun, Mexico in november. And i just cant live away from my cell phone. I have Verizon Wireless. Will my phone work in Cancun? I don't have an International plan. Please Help!

Good Questions but that depends on the type of phone you have.  

You really have to call Verizon and ask if your phone will work.  Each phone style has different capabilities.  Just because you don't have an international plan doesn't mean your phone will or won't work.

Once you have verified if your phone has capabilities then you can request an international plan or pay the per minute charge.  I have sprint and for me to use my cell in Mexico City it was $3 per minute without the plan.. So yo really need to call and ask the following questions:

1.  Do you have service in Cancun

2.  Does my phone have the capabilities to accept and make calls from Cancun

3.  How much will it cost me with and without the international plan.

4.  If I change my plan to the international plan will my contract start over.

We have a Verizon plan as well, and did not have an International plan when we were there.  The phones worked just fine, but I would suggest minimal use!  The rates were *quite* high.  Besides, Mexico is so incredible, and there is so much to do in Cancun, you should let the phone sit except for essential purposes.  You'll have a great time!

Verizon and Sprint will work in some places, but not in all and definitely not dependably. We have Verizon too and we rented a Mexitel Cellular phone last time and it was worth every penny. They have coverage everywhere and the cost to call the US was $1 per call, not per minute. And incoming calls were FREE.

i live on the border so i have a lot of experience with this! your phone will work, but it will charge you the international rate, you will be in mexico's network, not verizons so your rate will go up so try and use it just when you HAVE to, besides theres lots of beautiful things to do and see in Cancun!

You should get a boost mobile prepaid phone, it should work perfectly down there. It would work on calling and/or walkie talkie since nextel has so many phone towers down there
