Question:

Will my cockatiels mate?

Hi! I have two cockatiels, Coco, and Leo. I am trying to get them to mate, and the breeder I bought them from told me that Coco had recently layed an egg before I bought them. But her and Leo don't seem interested in mating! I have literally tried everything, but nothing works. I think part of the reason is that Coco seems to like me a lot and might possibly regard me as a possible partner, (which is great...), but, I want her to breed with Leo. Should I spend less time with Coco? (i've already cut back a lot)! Any other advice?

  1. Obviously you need to be sure they are male/female as the other responder said...

but are they set up with a nestbox?  Do they have adequate light (as autumn approaches, our daylight is waning and birds breed more readily under longer day conditions)?  What have you been feeding to bring them into breeding condition?  (We ramp up the amount of fresh foods they get before we set them up for breeding... it simulates the arrival spring and increased food availability (important for raising chicks).

If you have done all those things, remove the nestbox, wait a few weeks and try again.

  2. Are you defently sure that they are male and female, if they are then when they are ready they will mate :)

  3. alright im a try to help you out.

    what you do:

    1. supply a nest box with pine shavings with a 3-4" hole.

    2. put pine shavings in it not cider.

    3. remove all toys and supply a cuttle bone.

    4. feed them fruits, veggies, and seeds.

    5. dont open them up till there future babies are old enough.

    6. after 1-3 week you should see some eggs.

    7. then 19-21 days or more after eggs were layed on they will hatch.

    8. then start supplying more food.

    good luck

p.s make sure they are male and female. also do some google research
