Question:

Will my cory catfish breed?

I have a 29 gallon community tank with 3 cory catfish. I have 1 albino, 1 emerald green, and 1 speckled. They are all not even an inch long yet. My question is will these different breeds of cory catfish interbreed? I was hopefully looking to not have to deal with any fish fry in this tank... but it would be nice to know if I might eventually have some coming. Also how do you tell the difference between male and female cory catfish? Thanks so much!

  1. I don't think that the different species will breed. They need to be conditioned to breed anyway ... so if you don't attempt that I don't see a problem

here is a website I highly recommend as a great read as well as another

  2. It is very difficult to s*x cory cats. The females tend to be plumper and a little longer than the males. Cory cats lay eggs usually on glass or flat rocks and do not interbreed. You will probably not have any trouble with fry.
