I am in the process of moving to Australia and i need to know if its worth taking my household electrical items with me.

I am currently in the UK and the voltage here is 240v. Is it the same in Australia and would i just have to change the plugs over. It would be helpful to know as I am a carpenter and I do not want to have to sell all of my tools just to buy them again over there.

  1. yes they will work with a plug adapter or just change the plugs

one thing though, your tools will have to be absolutely spotlessly clean or customs will not allow them in

  2. Electricals will work OK but you will have to change the plugs

    (which are cheap).

TV , DVD and video will not work  -  different system.  Dont

    bring them  !

  3. 240 v HERE TOO MATE

  4. I am in the process of moving to Australia and i need to know if its worth taking my household electrical items with me

  5. Your appliances will all work. All you will need is a very inexpensive ($10 - $15) and easy to get plug adaptor.

  6. Hi I am in Oz .We have 240V you will only need to change your plugs.

When we emigrated (many moons ago) my mum brought appliances with her and they were fine.

Just one thing, My husband is a carpenter and works on building sites. Your tools and leads will need to be checked and tagged by an electrician for OHS, they are quite strict about it. shouldn't be too much of a problem though.

Hope you enjoy your move. I have been here 40 years and it was the best thing my mum could have done for us.

  7. It all depends on whether they pass the entry requirements, have sufficent skills, money and can get a work permit.

People are fed up of all these bloody foreign electrical appliances coming over and putting OUR kettles, blenders and microwaves out of work...  : )

  8. They will work I'm sure but you might need plug adaptors like you do for the continent.

  9. most likely.

  10. I think the plugs over there are just like the european plugs mate

  11. Working class thats funny.

Oz has the same voltage as the U.K. but the use differant plugs , so it will be no problem, all you have to do is cahnge the plugs easy peasy

  12. Most of your tools and household items will work but you will need to change the plugs over.

If its a reasonably inexpensive item I suggest leaving it, things like toasters, microwaves, etc. Even a fridge will cost a lot to relocate so it may be cheaper to buy a new one here. I understand your tools you may want to bring over though.

TVs wont connect to our aerials so unless you want to watch DVDs and nothing else don't bring them. DVD players won't play our DVDs you would need to bring them from home.

  13. Electrical goods should work just fine, not sure about the TV/video though.
