Will my european navman work in the US?

Hello,

We're going to the US on holiday later this year. I've got a Navman navigation system that works in Europe through the power lead plugged into the cigarette lighter.

My question is : will this work in a US rental car as well? In other words... is the cig lighter the same in the US as in Europe?

Many thanks!

Melvin

  1. I've done something similar.

I used a Tom Tom top of the line unit.  Home is 240 V,  like Europe; but a different plug shape.

The power charger was 110/240 V and the plug could be changed to suit the country.

You will need to purchase the US maps - don't know if you have to download, or buy them as a chip.

For TomTom, there were seven separate maps to download - buy 2 and the rest of north america was free (included canada/alaska together)

  2. It almost sounds like it would be more convenient to just buy a cheap one in the US.

  3. It will work with the cigarette lighter.

You will need to check your software to see it has USA maps installed.

I'm sure you can updte it if not.
