My friend had glasses made for him when he was young, he never used them and he now has 20/20 vision.

  1. No.  If your eyes are going to get better, they will do so whether or not you wear your glasses.

Your friend may have been farsighted, which is often found in younger children and then disappears or lessens with age.

  2. No, but I know when I started wearing my glasses, my eyes worsen over the years.

  3. Will your broken arm heal if you don't wear a cast?

Sure, maybe - but what would you?

Generally speaking, eyes don't get better. There are people who need glasses and then find their eyes improve, but it's really rare. Your eyes can't "tell" that they are bad, they aren't dogs who will try to make you happy. They can't "learn" to focus properly (it is a problem with the shape of your eye; you're eyes aren't just being lazy or something). Your friend was merely lucky that his eyes grew in such a way that his vision was improved.

Besides, glasses correct your vision so that you don't strain your eyes when you try to focus on things that are out of your range of vision. Why wouldn't you wear them?

  4. Good for your friend. I've come across several people who refused to wear their first glasses for a while and they overcame the stressful time in their life and their vision returned to normal. Eyesight gets worse during stressful times in our lives. People who wear glasses have locked the stressful times in their lives into their eyes and visual system.

Good analogy Cadann: Artificial corrections(glasses, contacts, lasik) are like a cast and crutches that never come off. They only get thicker and the crutches turn into a wheelchair.

Glasses don't take away eyestrain. The eyestrain just changes into a more tolerable less painful form. Artificial corrections make it so that our vision is clear even though we are using our eyes incorrectly.

If one decides to not use their glasses and does not have an understanding of what they did that gave them blurry vision and how to use their eyes, mind, and body together correctly, they will tend to squint, and strain, and get more blurry vision and pain.
