Question:

Will my freshman year suck??

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I am going to start high school in a few weeks and I am really nervous.

I am not popular

I am not good in math at all, so it makes me look like I am dumb in all of my classes when really, the only subjects that confuse me are math and science. (I hate formulas!!)

I don't have any classes with my friends. (That I know of. One of them is out of the country so I don't know about him yet.)

I am really shy.

I have a tendency to procrastinate, but I'm working on that. hehe.

Theres more but I don't have all day. So anyway, will my freshman year suck?

Oh and also, am I supposed to carry a bookbag??

Please help. Thanks in advance.

  1. Honey, your freshmen year is gonna be awesome. I know you think that your frshman year is scary at first. Other people are gonna be having problems in school too dont worry about that. I didn't have classes with my friends and I ended up being okay. I'm very shy too. I procrastinate too. Yes carry a bookbag. Honey I promise is not that bad. I was so scared. And it ended up being one of my best years so far. I loved it. I'll be a sophomore this year. I promise you'll be okay.

  2. just act cool if you dont people will pick on you i think

  3. I think my situation was worse. I had just moved to the states and I didn't speak any English. Don't worry about your friends. Try to make new friends. There are jerky people everywhere, you just have to learn how to deal with them and not let it get to you. I was really shy too, and whenever someone was being a jerk to me I tried to do something nice for them. Its sometimes hard to do, but most the time worked.

Just don't let anything bother you for too long, and don't be afraid to ask for help from your teachers and counselors.

    Be yourself!

  4. i'm starting my freshman year soon too.

i'm nervous too, but i have tons of friends so i think i'll be okay.

i'm not popular though, just outgoing.

just be friendly, outgoing, and yourself. people will love you.

and i know it's hard to be away from friends during the school day, but you'll still have lunch with them and breaks between classes.

this is also a great opportunity to make new friends.

if it bugs you that much, you can get your counselor to change your classes. (i did that in 8th grade, i hated my classes)

sorry i'm writing so much. hehe. just trying to reassure you that you will be absolutely fine.

you're probably a great girl, and if people don't like that, then they don't deserve to be your friends anyway.

about the bagpack, i have no clue.

    i was wondering that too.

hehe. i hope i helped. i'm nervous too, and everyone is, you'll be fine.

    :D

  5. i know im scared to

im starting my freshman year in two weeks and im not eactly a "genius" either but i think you'll be ok because theres a lot of people who have that same problem good luck :)

  6. It won't suck unless you make it suck.  Being popular in middle school doesn't mean anything for highschool. Don't worry bout looking dumb, in reality, nobody cares, and if they laugh, they'll probably want to get to know you because they think your being dumb on purpose to get laughs, trust me, I've seen this so many times.  You'll make the most friends during freshman year, friends that will last forever.  Being shy will improve as the year goes on!

    Have faith!

Oh, and you're not supposed to carry a bookbag

  7. Your freshman year will be what you make it. Everything in life works that way. People can only damage you if you let them. Go to school with a smile for everyone, take the time to care about the people around you (not just the ones you already know) and listen carefully to the teachers. You can have a wonderful time this year, but it all depends on your own attitude. So make it a good one!

...You'll need a bookbag if you have a lot of books to carry. Most people do.

  8. Please try to calm down :)  Everything will work out.  It's just overwhelming right now since it's more about "the fear of the unknown" and not really knowing what to expect.  I thought of high school as sort of an extension of middle school with more classes to choose from (though more work ;), more people to meet and more afterschool activities to pursue.  Please do keep a calender of upcoming assignments and exams/quizzes and to help work on the procrastination issue :)  Perhaps mark one's calender with fun school events too ;)

On a slightly different note, please steer clear of reckless behaviors to 'fit in' or self-medicate such as Not using inhalants ("huffing" fumes or gas), not engaging in 'the choking game', not having a 'water drinking contest' which can cause water intoxication and not 'car/truck surfing'.

  9. you'll always need a bookbag, even in college

but, its no big deal, just think of it as Junior High at a different location

  10. try to get a map before the first day of school. know where the wings are [english wing, math hallway...ect.]

if you get the list of class rooms then map out where you are going :) so you'll know the best routes to take.

buy your basic school supplies beforehand [a binder, folder, notebook/paper,pens,pencils,backpack] before hand that way all you'll have to buy after the first day is the necessities for each class.

don't worry about being harassed by upperclassman on the first day. i was a freshman last year and nothing happened to me OR anyone i knew.

just remember: you were in middle school at one time with the juniors and sophmores (when you were in 6th grade!) and the seniors really keep to themselves. dont be nervous-highschool is a time to have fun and be with your friends!

  11. No way! You are gonna miss high school the second you get your diploma.

But seriously, if you are worried you should get involved in a sport that you enjoy, and if you don't enjoy sports, join a club in something progressive or interests you, like the green club or chess club. You will make a ton of friends, and will be pretty popular amongst your peers.

If you think you look dumb when you are up there answering a question wrong, who cares? Nobody is going to laugh at you and if they do it just shows they insecure. Just brush it off and move on.

  12. Not popular--Imagine this. Will not being popular matter in 10 years? What about in 5 years? No, not at all. What will matter, however, is the time & fun you had with your friends. Seriously! Think about it. Popular people would possibly drive you insane. LOL.

Not good in math at all--Ask for extra help after class from the teacher or get online help or help from friends, older siblings and adults. Practice & studying can help too!

No classes with your friends--even better! now you can make new friends

really shy--great oppurtunity to overcome it!

    procrastinate--you're already working on it!

Your freshman year will be sooooo cool! Just don't worry and think optimistically! Hope this helps! --Amanda
