Well, what I mean by that is, is there any promise of funk (as in, the style of music) for the ukulele? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

  1. anything is possible you just have to be the right sort of person to push it

  3. Yes.

Ukelele can be funky.  A lot of funky guitar chords and rhythms are played on the bottom 4 strings.  You should be able to emulate those cuts on the uke.  Think of the song "Kiss" by Prince.

You can also play cool single string grooves like in "Fame" by Bowie.

Funk is about the groove, not the instrumentation.  I heard David Byrne rock the house with African drummers, Xylophone and a classical string section.

  4. ummm...wow ukulele. it'll be hard to push with funk, but with the right producers and your ideas i'm sure it'll work out. just use alot of effects that will bring  the ukulele sound t.o funkytown.

  5. Ukelele music is seriously getting more popular, I've been hearing it sampled within pop, rock & other mainstream genres more and more often lately. It's also attracting some attention by itself as a novelty (google Ukelele Club de Paris). I'm not aware of any existing ukelele-funk fusion music that I can point you to, but I think inventing it is totally within your powers. Funkelele. Do it.

  6. I personally don't like funk music. As to where the genre is today, I think it is gone, however, you can always try and experiment with funk to develop a new style, and that could be the next big thing. The thing with music is that it is so unpredictable, and it can go on any direction. We people are funny when it comes to what we call good and bad music. We are like spoiled brat, and that only makes it harder on musicians, I myself am a musician, so I know it is hard.

I could only tell you to do what you like to do, so you do it your best, and you have fun. Don't worry about making it big, if you do, it could destroy your love for music. Hope this helps.
