yesterday my gerbil hopped out of my hands and fellabout 3-4 feet and hit the tile. he started violently twitching and was crazily hopping in my hands i set him down on the counter and he was limping he wouldnt put any weight on his back leg. i put him back in his cage waited like 5 minutes and set him back on the counter again he put weight on his back leg and was walking ok but it kinda looked a little funny it wasnt how he normally walked.i put him back in his cage he was eating drinking and running in his exercise wheel today i noticed that he is not useing his front paw he has it held up against his chest other then that he seems perfectly fine i am really worried and i feel soooo guilty is this serious or should i let it heal on its own? should i not hold him for a while and just let him be with the other gerbil in his cage for a little bit?

  1. the best thing to do is call a vet

  2. wow dont feel bad  it could happen to any one he will be ok

  3. You should take him to the vet immediately because it is in pain.

Gerbils are good at hiding that, but if he isn't using it there is something seriously wrong.

    Vet.

    Today.

  4. I agree with everyone else.

I know vets can be expensive but it is the best thing to do to make sure the poor lil' guy isn't suffering.  And it would help catch a problem that may turn worse later!

Good Luck and I hope he's ok =(

  5. I know how it feels! My aunt slamed my cousin's gerbil's paw in the closing of the her cage. It was bleeding, but it is fine now, and the gerbil still likes her!

Defently take it to the vet to make sure everything is okay!

Good luck, and tell your gerbil that I say "Feel better!"

  6. i would take him to the vet just to be sure that he's okay.

  7. I'm sure he'll be fine. Gerbils are very hardy little creatures and heal remakably well. Just so long as he is still eating and drinking normally then there shouldn't be a problem. As soon as you notice a change in his eating/drinking habits then he will need to see a vet immediately. However, there is very little a vet will do for him at the moment, so just keep an eye on him.

I wouldn't pick him up all the time he's still not using that foot incase you aggrgavate the injury, but you can still stroke him and feed him from his cage door.

And don't feel too guilty, gerbils are far faster than us and can be somewhat impulsive when in your hands!
