Question:

Will my grandfathers insurance go up if I was using the car?

My grandfather let me use his car for work one day (I have no car of my own) and I got a ticket. I went to court today for it, the gave me one point on my license. Will this effect his insurance even though its not my car and I am not on the policy? Or will it only effect my insurance when I get a car of my own?

  2. It will affect you.

  3. as long as you are not living in the same household or listed as an excluded driver on his policy, you can borrow his car. the point will just affect your driving record

  4. If you're a listed operator on his policy, it will affect his policy.

If you're not a listed operator, and you have an accident with his car, the insurance company might not cover you - or his car.  But then tickets won't raise his rates, because the insurance company doesn't know you're driving his car.
