Will my guitar be damaged if liquid is spilled on it?

It won't improve it. If it's electric, UNPLUG it. BLOT (don't rub) up all the liquid you can with a soft cloth or paper towels. If the liquid was anything besides water, blot with a clean damp cloth or damp paper towels to rinse off sugar, alcohol, etc. Blot again to dry, then aim a fan or blow-dryer (set on low or no heat) at it to dry it off completely.

Once it's completely dry, it's safe to test it. Problems with the finish can be retouched, problems with wood or electrics are probably more serious.
