Question:

Will my hair turn green?! HELP! HAIRSTYLISTS!!!?

I'm posting here as a next-to-last resort. My hairstylist would flip her lid if she knew what I did!

Last week, I used Clairol's Born Blond Maxi on my dark auburn hair to try and lighten it (bleach it) to blond. Well, it came out brassy orange/yellow. Horrified, I dyed it Extra Light Ash Blond (very very pale blonde) that promised to "tone" brassiness.

It helped a little, but not much. My hair is still very bright yellow with an orange glow.

I need to get this back to brown or auburn or SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT I HAVE NOW. But I am afraid my hair will turn GREEN if I dye it brown.

I am not dying it right away since I know my hair has been through h**l already - but I need to change it soon.

What color do I need to get to neutralize the orange/yellow brassiness and get my hair back to brown WITHOUT it turning green?

ash brown? neutral brown? please help me!

  1. ash brown lol!!!... Poor thing!  Don't think your hairdresser won't notice either!!!  Good luck!

  2. Ash brown will DEFINITELYget rid of other colors, trust me, I dyed my hair orange once by mistake and it just disappeared when I dyed it ash brown.

    :]

  3. if your hair is very brassy, you will need to use an ash brown, 10 volume developer, if it is only slight, try a neutral, in my experience, most neutral tones will lean toward the ash tones and help to neutralize your unwanted tones, HOWEVER, I am a stylist and i must tell you to go to your own stylist and have this fixed, trying to do your own color never works, I have fixed many mistakes just like yours. It is best to give up while you can, before you really s***w up your hair.

  4. OMG.. when I was in eighth grade I did the same thing.  I used the box c**p to try to get my dark hair blond and it looked horrible, just like you said, a yellowish orange, more so orange though.  Unfortunately I had to wear my hair like this until It got long enough and little by little I cut out that orange color.  If you go to your hair dresser she may be able to fix it, you already put a lot of chemical on it however, so I'm not sure if she will try to bleach it again for you or not.  Your best bet would be to call and ask her.  If she wants you to wait a few more weeks before putting the bleach on, don't bother wasting your money on any other hair colors.  They wont take to your hair at all and if they do, will fade very quickly.  Also, your hair is going to be very straw like because of the bleach and you will have trouble brushing it, trust me.  It is because you have damaged your hair with the bleach.  Get a very good conditioner, it will help.  If nothing else, don't worry, your hair will grow.  Hope all works out!
