Question:

Will my homemade cardboard box work trying to hatch Quail?

All that it's composed of is a cardboard box, a 60 watt lightbulb, paper towels, (where the eggs sit), wet paper towels (for humidity), and an extremely small fan (whose blades diameter is >4inches and emits a breeze half of that of your everyday outdoors breeze.) Also there's a humidity gauge and thermometer. I know that the recommended temp is 100 degrees and 60% humidity.

Will it become too hot in the box for the quail eggs? Will cutting holes in the box reduce the amount of heat inside?

Has anyone out there done anything relatively close to this before?

What are your opinions on this?

Thanks! Any help at all is help, indeed!

  1. As long as t he temp stays steady at 98 degrees, you can keep them in whatever you want to.

  2. I can quite honestly say that your housing is brilliant! You are a very good thinker when it comes to this. I most definitely commend you for your knowledge and ability. I think that your housing technique is perfect for those eggs! I have no complaints or suggestions for you. You really haven't left out a single detail, not even the natural breeze. Keep up the good work. :)

    Good luck with your hatchlings!

  3. How often do you need to turn the eggs? Do you know how much to lower the humidity when they are about to hatch?  Do you have a brooder set up for the hatchlings?  There is still more homework to be done...
